Absolutely excellent, from start to finish! The quote was to remove 2 tall stumps and to grind the roots. The preferred method was to use WhatsApp (On a Saturday) by sending a photo. We agreed a price, and a date for work to commence (the following Monday at 8am). The workmen were on time, very polite, wore all the PPE required, even put up hoardings around the site when using machinery. Job done by 9am, all cleaned up and equipment removed. The site was left in an excellent state, would never have known there was a tree there. Photo's included show the work site before and after. I have decided that all our future arborist work will be directed their way.![]()

Very happy with the tree survey supplied by Crown Tree Surgeons. We had been asked to produce a tree survey by our local authority as we currently have a planning application to build a flat roof extension. David talked us through the process, gave us his time when we met in person explaining what the report contains and how it is used by the planning department. Overall I am very happy with the no fuss approach and would recommend Crown Tree Surgeons to anyone looking for a tree survey.![]()

We recently used Crown Tree Surgeons to undertake a tree survey of our sycamore tree as it was a requirement by our local planning authority before we can build an extension on the back of our house. This was all new to us as we had no idea that a report was necessary. David explained the whole process and how a BS5837 report would be needed and compiled and then used as part of our planning application process. Both myself and my husband were very grateful, we would recommend to anyone also looking for a tree report.

Crown Tree Surgeons were extremely flexible and helpful! The team gave their time to come and help Demelza Hospice Care for Children with their 2023 Tree-Cycle Event. Around 300 trees were chipped on site and we couldn't be more grateful for their support.

Super pleased! We have never used a tree surgeon before and didn't really know where to start. I made contact with Crown Tree Surgeons a couple of months ago, a young pleasant guy turned up to quote he explained that the tree was protected and that planning permission was needed. There price was not the cheapest but we still decided to go with them as i wanted to be sure that my neighbours garden was protected as he kindly agreed to remove the waste from the tree through his garden. So i left for work early morning and didn't return until late, i woke up this morning to see the result and i am so pleased, the trees look amazing, we finally have light in our garden and our neighbour is also very pleased! thank you![]()

Tree Pruning Services in Lewisham FAQs
What is tree pruning and why is it important in Lewisham?
Tree pruning involves the selective removal of branches to improve a tree’s health, structure, and appearance. In Lewisham, this practice is essential for managing growth, reducing hazards, and maintaining tidy residential and commercial landscapes. Regular pruning helps promote strong growth, prevents disease spread, and improves light and air circulation through the canopy.
How often should I schedule tree pruning in Lewisham?
Most trees benefit from pruning every 1–3 years, depending on their species, age, and location. In areas like Lewisham, where urban tree maintenance is crucial, regular tree trimming ensures safety and aesthetic appeal. A professional tree surgeon in Lewisham can advise on the best pruning schedule based on your tree type and environment.
What’s the difference between crown thinning and crown reduction?
Crown thinning in Lewisham focuses on removing selective inner branches to improve air flow and light penetration, without altering the tree’s size. Crown reduction, however, reduces the overall height or spread of the tree’s canopy, often to clear buildings or overhead lines. Both are common tree maintenance techniques performed by qualified tree specialists.
Do I need permission for tree pruning in Lewisham?
If your tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or located in a conservation area, you must obtain council approval before pruning. A local arborist in Lewisham can help assess your tree’s status and submit the necessary applications, ensuring all work is legal and compliant.
What are the risks of DIY tree pruning?
DIY pruning without proper knowledge or tools can cause irreversible damage to your trees. Poor cuts may lead to disease, weak regrowth, or structural instability. For safe and effective results, it’s best to hire a qualified tree surgeon in Lewisham who has the expertise to maintain tree health and minimise hazards.
How does storm-damaged tree pruning work?
Storm-damaged tree pruning in Lewisham involves removing split, broken, or hanging limbs after high winds or severe weather. It’s a critical part of emergency tree services to restore safety and prevent further damage. Prompt action helps the tree recover quickly and prevents issues such as disease or decay from setting in.
Can pruning improve my property's kerb appeal?
Absolutely. Tree shaping and regular tree trimming in Lewisham significantly improve your property’s visual appeal. Well-maintained trees contribute to a polished, attractive outdoor space that enhances the overall look and value of your home or business premises.
Why hire a professional tree surgeon in Lewisham?
Professional tree surgeons in Lewisham have the training, tools, and knowledge to prune trees safely and effectively. They understand local species, regulations, and proper techniques for promoting tree health. Hiring a qualified tree specialist also ensures minimal disruption, safe working practices, and long-term care for your landscape.
What is clearance pruning and when is it needed?
Clearance pruning is carried out to remove branches that encroach on roads, buildings, or power lines. In Lewisham, this is essential for maintaining safe access and preventing property damage. Local tree cutting services perform this task while preserving the tree’s natural shape and promoting healthy regrowth.
What types of trees benefit most from regular pruning?
Most deciduous trees, fruit trees, and ornamental species benefit greatly from regular pruning. In Lewisham, both mature and young trees require tree canopy management to maintain health, shape, and safety. A tree health inspection by a local arborist can help determine the best care plan.
Is deadwood removal really necessary?
Yes. Deadwood removal in Lewisham eliminates dead, dying, or diseased branches that pose safety risks. These limbs can fall unexpectedly and cause damage or injury. Removing them also improves tree vitality by redirecting energy to healthy growth and reducing the risk of pest infestation or decay.
Can you help with tree maintenance for commercial properties?
Certainly. We provide complete commercial tree care in Lewisham, including pruning, shaping, clearance, and inspections. Proper tree maintenance helps maintain a safe, attractive business environment while reducing potential liabilities. Services are tailored to minimise disruption to business operations.
What is formative pruning and why is it done?
Formative pruning shapes young trees during their early growth stages to promote a balanced structure and strong framework. This proactive approach, often performed by tree surgeons in Lewisham, helps reduce the need for major corrective pruning later and ensures long-term health and stability.
Are your services available year-round?
Yes, our tree pruning and maintenance services in Lewisham are available throughout the year. However, certain types of pruning are best carried out in late winter or early spring when trees are dormant. We’ll always recommend the best time based on species and health condition.
