Tree pruning can be broken down into the following descriptions:

Crown reduction: this is where every branch on the tree is reduced by a recommended amount, taking into consideration the species of the tree and its surrounding environment. This involves a reduction of the overall hight and spread of the crown, allowing for a smaller size and shape.

Crown thinning: this involves removing selected outer branches of the crown, allowing for increased light and the reduction of wind loading on the tree. The overall size and shape of the tree is not affected.

Crown lift: by selectively removing the lower branches on a tree, it lifts the tree’s crown, allowing for increased light to the base of the tree and the immediate surrounding area, as well as allowing for better access.
